Beach Session

Basic Skills:

  • Passing (Bump): Begin with the fundamental skill of passing. Emphasize the importance of proper footwork, body positioning, and contacting the ball with the forearms. Demonstrate how to create a platform by locking the thumbs and keeping the arms straight.

  • Setting: Teach players how to set the ball accurately and consistently. Focus on hand positioning, timing, and using finger pads to push the ball upward in a controlled manner. Emphasize the importance of soft hands and maintaining a consistent tempo.

  • Serving: Break down the serving technique into components such as grip, stance, tossing the ball, and arm swing. Encourage players to develop different types of serves, including float serves and topspin serves, to keep opponents off balance.

Hitting

  • Approach: Teach players how to approach the net with speed and efficiency. Emphasize the importance of timing the approach to meet the ball at its highest point.

  • Arm Swing: Break down the spiking motion into phases: approach, jump, arm swing, and follow-through. Demonstrate the correct sequence of movements and emphasize generating power from the legs and core.

  • Timing: Help players understand how to time their jump and arm swing to make solid contact with the ball at the peak of their jump. Encourage them to watch the ball and adjust their timing accordingly.

  • Blocking: (this is not for defensive players)

Teach players the proper technique for blocking at the net. Focus on footwork, hand positioning, and reading the opponent's attack. Emphasize the importance of timing the jump and reaching over the net without making contact. Game Situations: Incorporate drills and game-like scenarios to practice skills in a realistic setting. Encourage communication among players and simulate different game situations to develop decision-making skills.
